Are children counted as 1 person on boat capacity?

Yes, the listed boat capacity is for all people, regardless of age.

Are there bathrooms on board?

No, none of our pontoon boats are equipped with either bathrooms or porta-potties.

Are there life jackets on board? Anchors? Fire extinguishers?

Yes! Each boat is equipped with all items required by law to be legal on the river, including adult size life jackets for the capacity of the boat. There is an anchor and line on each boat as well as a swim ladder, oar and first-aid kit.

We offer a small stock of youth & child size life jackets upon request, but we recommend bringing jackets/vests for your children if they have them. This will ensure a proper fit.  These are given on a first come, first served bases.

Can I bring coolers, snacks, drinks, etc?

Yes, you are more than welcome to bring coolers! Snacks and drinks are encouraged! Stop by our gas shack for some great deals on beverages and snacks!

Can I bring my pets?

Yes, you can bring your pet. If there is extra cleaning needed upon your return, there will be a cleaning fee charged. There will also be a fee for any tears into the upholstery caused by any animal nails.

Can I have more people on board than the houseboat sleeps?

Unfortunately, our houseboats can only hold a certain weight as noted on the pricing sheet. Any person over, would be the responsibility for the renter and any and all violation/ fines would be the responsibility of the renter.

Can we BBQ on the boats?

We don’t allow any sort of grilling on our pontoons due to the small space, however we invite you to bring your grill along and grill on a sandbar or beach! We ask that you please allow ample amount of time for the grill to cool before reloading onto the pontoon.

 

Our houseboats are equipped with a propane grill and grilling utensils for your convenience!

Can we bring a ski boat or fishing boat behind the houseboat?

Yes, by towing your personal watercraft, you can have additional ways to enjoy the river!

Can we cruise at night, and where do we go for the night?

Due to insurance and safety, all boats are not allowed to be driven after dusk. Navigation lights have been disabled for this reason. There are many sandy beaches along the river to beach and spend the night. You are also able to anchor along shore ways, lakes , Boatels or another marina for the night.

Can we have alcohol on board?

Yes, alcohol is allowed on the boat and may be consumed while underway but you MUST follow state & national alcohol consumption guidelines. You can get ticketed and/or arrested on the water for OWI (operating while intoxicated) with a BAC of .08 or higher.

 

*Glass is not allowed on shore.

Do I have to have a boating license to rent a boat?

In Iowa, you don’t need a boating license to rent a boat. We require renters to have a valid drivers license and be 18 years of age to sign the rental contract.

Do I need to know how to drive a houseboat before I can rent one?

No, you need to be at least 18 years old with a valid drivers license and credit card. We will teach you everything you need to know prior to leaving the dock.

Do you sell batteries or boat accessories.

McGregor Marina is a certified Honda dealership. We also keep a variety of props, interstate batteries and other accessories on hand.

Does McGregor Marina / Boatels have a gas dock?

Yes, our gas dock is located at Boatels. We offer full service unleaded gasoline, pump outs and a “gas shack” for all of your convenience needs!

I will have children with me. Do they have to wear life jackets?

Under Iowa law, children 13 years old and younger, MUST wear a USCG approved life jacket at all times while on the water, whether the boat is docked, anchored, or in motion unless the child is below deck or in an enclosed cabin.

 

Is gas an additional expense?

Yes, you will receive all boats full of fuel and you are responsible for filling them upon delivery of the vessel.

Pontoon Cancellation Policy

McGregor Marina allows you to reschedule your rental instead of canceling. You will have 1 calendar year to complete your rental before loss of deposit.

Rental Agreements

All watercraft are full of gas when you leave and will be refueled upon your return. You will be charged for the gasoline and oil used. Rental prices quoted do not include gasoline, oil or sales tax.

There will be no refunds for early returns or late departures. Sorry

All boats are required to stay in this pool. You are not allowed to “lock through”. All rentals are to be returned at agreed upon time or a charge of $75 per hour will be assessed for a late fee. Billed at a 1 hour minimum. All additional late fees will be charged at 5 minute increments.

Any boat reported or observed operating in an unsafe manner, will result in forfeiture of security deposit and rental!

Security Deposit Info

Pontoon- We charge a $100 reservation deposit that transfers to a security deposit upon boarding of your vessel. Security deposits will be refunded within 10 business days upon completion of your rental via check. Security deposit checks will be less any charges or damages against your account. Should the damage caused  exceed the security deposit, the customer is responsible for the immediate full payment of the damages claimed by McGregor Marina.

 

Houseboat- We charge a $500 reservation deposit that transfers to a security deposit upon boarding of your vessel. Security deposits will be refunded within 10 business days upon completion of your rental via check. Security deposit checks will be less any charges or damages against your account. Should the damage caused  exceed the security deposit, the customer is responsible for the immediate full payment of the damages claimed by Boatels.

What size slips do you have?

We have many different sized slips ranging from 18 feet- 50 feet. Please give us a call for more information.

We also have slips that are covered and electric/ water slips.

What type of fishing license is required?

State fishing licenses are valid from train track to train track.

Iowa and Wisconsin residents must have a valid fishing license from their state. Nonresident anglers are required to purchase a Wisconsin or Iowa nonresident license. A Wisconsin or Iowa fishing license may be purchased in Prairie du Chien.

A Wisconsin issued fishing license is valid in the Mississippi River and an Iowa issued fishing license is also valid in the River.

Where do I pick up & drop off the boat?

All pontoons will depart and arrive at McGregor Marina. (Just behind the Beer & Bratz Garden Restaurant)

 

All houseboats will depart and arrive at their designated times at Boatels.

 

Parking is available at both locations.
